There are small but well stocked supermarkets, catering for the majority of
requirements, within 5 miles in La Coquille and Chalus, and in Firbeix itself
there is a post office, bar, garage and boulangerie. The hypermarkets in Limoges
and Perigueux have mouth-watering displays of all types of food.
Restaurants
In the Dordogne gastronomy takes on another meaning. This area is famous for
its traditional cuisine and is well known in France as the homeland of foie-gras
and truffles, but these are only a part of its culinary specialities, and
restaurants and auberges abound to suit all tastes and pockets
 
Markets
Country markets take place in all towns and large villages. The one in Thiviers
takes place on Saturday mornings and is a glorious example of rural France
at its best. Here you can buy anything from chickens to chairs, to the accompaniment
of piped music from the street corners, giving a carnival feel to the occasion.
However, as all things in this part of France, it closes sharply on the dot
at midday.
